Our goal

Hand in Hand International’s overall goal is to help eradicate world poverty by supporting the creation of 10 million new jobs by 2014. Follow this link to read in depth about our goals and strategy.

What we believe in

We are pro-poor and we always interact with the poor in a way that provides hope, dignity, and individual choice.

We believe in supplying fishing rods rather than fish by supporting job creation among the poor.

We tackle poverty holistically with an integrated approach.

We lift communities by getting children out of labour and into schools, improving health services, creating access to IT, and implementing sustainable environmental practices.

We have a bottom-up approach, where models emerge locally, and then spread globally.

We meet best business practice in terms of efficiency, transparency, and accountability, and combine the best of civil society and business.

What we do

We build partnerships:

Hand in Hand International believes that poverty only can be eradicated when government, private sector, and civil society work in partnership. We build and nurture long-lasting partnerships with local and international businesses, foundations, public institutions, and private donors. We treat our partners with professionalism and willingness to understand their needs. Together we develop projects in which all stakeholders share in the value created.

We develop strategy:

Hand in Hand International analyses and assesses world poverty in order to develop new methods to fight it in all its dimensions. This work includes drafting new strategies for expansion as well as modifying current ones, identifying new partnerships, benchmarking other stakeholders and models, using innovative ways of communicating and fundraising, and fine-tuning monitoring and evaluation tools.

We create awareness:

Hand in Hand International creates awareness and triggers debate around self-help models.

We assist the Hand in Hand family:

Hand in Hand International assists our sister organisations in the Hand in Hand family by raising funds for their work in India, South Africa and Afghanistan.

We communicate:

Hand in Hand International strives for fact-based, innovative and emotionally engaging ways of communicating our models. We look after Hand in Hand on the web and in print, and represent the Hand in Hand family.
