The profile

Salcomp Plc, founded in 1975, is a global developer and manufacturer of mobile phone chargers. Its customers are the major mobile phone manufacturers. Salcomp’s production plants are located in Shenzhen in China, in Manaus in Brazil´, and in Chennai in India. In addition to these locations, Salcomp has operations in Salo and Kemijärvi in Finland, in Leesburg in the USA and in São Paolo in Brazil. Salcomp has some 7,025 employees. Salcomp has a strong market position: in the mobile phone charger market, Salcomp is the market leader, and in the combined market of all the various chargers, it is among the five largest players.

The project

Salcomp and its mother company Nordstjernan have agreed to partner with Hand in Hand through its Indian organisation Salcomp Manufacturing India Ltd, as part of their corporate social responsibility programme. The partnership spans over a two-year period and includes providing soft and vocational skills training to 2,250 people in order to make them employable. In addition, the programme includes a comprehensive environmental initiative, with solid waste management and biogas plants in two villages of Kancheepuram, a total sanitation project with community participation in two other villages, and renovation support to primary health centres in some other villages.
